Why I invested in myself

I’ve always been a frugal gal.

Why pay someone when I can figure it out myself?

This was my mindset when I valued MONEY over everything.

I was more willing to invest my time and energy into trying to accomplish something than spending my hard earned money to pay someone else to do it.

As soon as my kids would go to bed, I’d be up until all hours of the night researching and reading; my eyes would be bleary and I had a headache. I’d watch hours and hours of YouTube videos trying to learn how to mess with Photoshop – only to be not thrilled with what I made; Then I never shared the graphics because I was embarrassed by them.

I wanted to have more free time to focus on doing what I’m good at (hello, code ^_^ ) or to just sit and relax for a damn minute! I didn’t realize it at the time, but my mindset had started to change.

Money was no longer the most important currency in my life – TIME was.

Now, don’t get me wrong – I still love a good challenge, learning new things and saving money. But the more experience I gain in running my own business, the more I’m coming to find so much VALUE and FREEDOM in hiring professionals to handle the things I don’t like/don’t know how to do, and to teach me how to be more effective with the time I spend working on my business.

I’ve made a couple of bigger investments into different things this year and the payoff has been amazing! Each time was scary AF – am I making the right decision? What if this amounts to nothing? What if it’s not a good fit and I still have to do all this work on my own and now I’m out the cash too?

All I’ll say, is if you’re thinking of making similar investments into yourself and your business, do your research before you hire someone and when you think you’ve found the right person/program: JUMP INTO IT.

You will be scared. And that’s OK. But what do you have to lose? You can always make more money, but you can never get more time back in your day.

Since making these investments, I get to:

  • Be more present with my hubby & kids in the evening.
  • Actually SIT and watch some TV after the kids are in bed.
  • Read a book for FUN!
  • Not stress about the quality of my designs since I know it’s in the hands of a professional.
  • Be more efficient with the time I spend working on my businesses.

Do all the things, woman! Just make sure you’re not going broke with your most valuable currency in the process.
